How much does it cost to attend HuskyCon? Nothing, it's free!

How can I get to the tournament site? Depending on where you are coming from there are several options. The Stony Brook train station on the Long Island Railroad is very close to the venue. Should you arrive at this station, we can easily pick you up.

Should you arrive by plane, we will not be making pickups from JFK, Newark or Laguardia airport. However there is good train service between these airports and the Stony Brook train station on the Long Island Railroad. Please contact us directly for help with finding the right train to take.

Driving is easy if you are close. Please contact us for the address if you are planning to drive. If you are coming from New England, there are two ferries that you can take. The Bridgeport-Port Jefferson ferry and the Orient Point ferry both come to Long Island. We can make pick ups from Port Jefferson if you take the train to Bridgeport.

What should I bring with me? Clothes. We expect everyone to wear clean clothes. Also could you please bring your own towel and a pillow. If you want to swim please bring your own bathing suit. Because of the space limitations we also generally need tents, sleeping bags and air mattresses.

What can I do to help? There are a few things here. Keeping the house clean during the event is a challenge. We need EVERYONE to help pick up and keep trash from accumulating. If you have an air mattress please bring it with you. If you don't mind camping in the yard, please bring camping stuff. We are generally very tight on space.

Is there enough space for me? So sleeping spaces are given out in a completely arbitrary manner as I see fit. Typically older people and distant travels get top options. If you are under 25 plan on floor space or camping.

I have a sleep apnea machine, is that going to be a problem? We've dealt with this before

Can I bring my spouse? Yup! If he/she likes drinking wine, socializing and playing games, they will have a great time.

Can I bring a friend Yup! See the above answer. If she's female you might want to get Adam Sigal's opinion on bringing your friend.

Can I bring my children? So here is the deal with this one. This is an event full of a bunch of guys all of whom will be mad at each other and possibly (probably) drinking. There will be a lot of swearing. People have brought their kids in the past and their kids have had a great time. Other people have had a real problem with the atmosphere of the event not being kid friendly. So yeah, but I warned you.

Will there be other games to play besides Diplomacy? Yes. There always are.

I have never been to HuskyCon before, what is "the cliff?" The venue is on the edge of a rather steep cliff-like slope. Colin Davis in a drunken midnight stumble to use the tree, walked right off the edge last year. He survived with no injuries and a pickle.

What scoring system do you use? No idea yet. You'll just have to come and see!

When is each round? We will start Friday's round at 8pm. Saturday's round will be at 9am. Sunday's round will be at 8am. We do not have a Saturday night round because Saturday night is typically open gaming, and it's always an epic evening.

Are there time limits? Only on Sunday, but generally, the rounds are shorter than a lot of other North American tournaments.

Can I bring a speedo instead of swimming trunks? We prefer not.

Can I wear a speedo instead of regular clothes? Definitely not.

Why is it called HuskyCon Because we had three dogs, all of them Siberian Huskies, when we started running this event. For whatever reason we named the event after them.

Do I have to play all rounds? You can do whatever you want. If you want to win though, I recommend it. You'll need at least two rounds to qualify for any awards.

Will food be provided? Yup! And it's all free!

How can I give back? Any contribution would be appreciated. My family pays for this whole event 100%. If you bring any food or drink with you that would be great. Help in cleaning up would be great. Help in preparing food would be great. Cash donations are also accepted. You could also help by getting more people to come and play Diplomacy or other games!

Can we drink and smoke at the venue? Drinking and smoking are permitted, but smoking must be done outside.

Will we be able to shower and follow good hygiene practices? Yes. Although keep showers short because there are going to be a lot of people there!

When can we start arriving at the site? You can start arriving Thursday evening and you must leave by Monday.

I don't want to stay at the site what are my options? What?! Why not?! Fine. Check hotels in the area. I know they exist.

I am allergic to dogs, what should I do? Go to a different Diplomacy tournament.

If I fly to JFK or Laguardia airport can I get an airport pickup? Nope, you are taking the train to Stony Brook train station.

Can I get a pickup from Long Island McCarthur Airport? Yes. Send me your flight info.

Will the results from this tournament be reported? Yes. They will be widely available.

I have a friend who has never been to a Diplomacy tournament before, is this a good tournament for him to start at? Yes and no. He will have so much fun that other tournaments will seem lame. It's a good tournament to start at because it's not as cut throat and competitive as other tournaments. It's a great first tournament.
